A Few Early Morning Thoughts

Dear Friends, how grateful we are for the last 24 hours. This time yesterday morning I was watching Max sleep in the hotel and now I am sitting in ICU watching him try to sleep. If any of you have been in this situation with a little one before, you understand the process. He is very frustrated with the restraints, the IVs, the bed, the...well, EVERYTHING! When he sleeps, he sleeps; when he's awake, he cries. He's been awake for over an hour but has thankfully drifted back to sleep.

Courtney went to lay down at the Ronald McDonald House here in the hospital around 3:30 after letting me get a few hours myself. We are both exhausted, but it's a good tired...a "Praise the Lord" tired!

Though the huge hurdle of surgery is behind us, we still covet your prayers for a few things:
- Max continues routine chest x-rays to monitor his lungs. As much as his crying breaks our hearts, there's nothing better at the moment to keep his lungs clear. His lungs need to stay that way.
- Max's emotional state. I intellectually understand that his time in ICU will be a distant memory if a memory at all; but, each moment he's awake and frantically trying to process his surroundings, I pray our Father would wipe these brief hours from his mind.
- REST for all of us! Pray that 3 hours of sleep will feel like 6 to our bodies. "For nothing is impossible with God" Luke 1:37
- Please don't forget about John David, Hadley and Caleb back home. Courtney and I miss them terribly!!!

Every post and email continues to be such an encouragement to us. Though we are far from home, we are far from lonely. We have all of you to thank for that.

THIS PICTURE IS FOR JOHN DAVID, HADLEY AND CALEB. MAX WANTS YOU TO SEE THAT HE IS O.K. I ASKED HIM TO SMILE FOR YOU BUT HE IS VERY SLEEPY. HE LOVES YOU GUYS A LOT AND KEEPS ASKING TO SEE YOU!

Max,

I know this will be a tough road for you to travel these next few days but God is with you and loves you so much! He will help you sleep and eat and not be scared. Those nurses and doctors want to take good care of you. We will pray for rest for ALL five of you. It is so good to be able to read how you are doing! We will continue to check on you each day.
Love to All of you!!

Hi Guys...
Hang in there...We have been so amazed by Hannah's resilience during her surgeries and recoveries...I will pray that Max will be the same...that he will bounce back and have little or no memory of this time. As a matter of fact, Hannah actually anticipated hospital stays...forgetting the pain of the last one, but remembering the attention and "loot" that everyone sent her!! God endows them with a special spirit to handle this time. Take care and know that y'all are loved! Brenda

Hey guys,

We continue to pray for you... Rest for C&C and peace for Max. We're looking forward to seeing you Fri/Sat.

We know exactly how you feel after watching Riley endure NICU for about 2 weeks after her birth. It was just a few months ago, but feels like a distant memory.

Love to you all,
Our crew to yours

this post and picture brought tears to my eyes but i agree it's a "praise the Lord" kind of emotion! max is proving himself to be such a strong little man and hopefully on the road to a FULL speedy recovery! God amazes me every day (especially lately in all these circumstances) with His mercy and faithfulness. love to you all from your church body and bible fellowship class! we are continuing to lift the whole family to the throne daily. :-) look forward to hearing all the more positive progression updates to come.

I just wanted to let you know that we are praying for Max in Millry AL. We had special prayer for him in our children's group last night at Millry Baptist Church. My sister (Sonya Jennings) attends TBC and sent me a prayer request for Max and we are sending up prayers for him and for you and your entire family. Stay strong !
